02 – ZERO HUNGER

GOAL 02 – ZERO HUNGER

The second Sustainable Development Goal aims to end hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.

The first target of this goal is to eliminate hunger and to ensure access to safe, nutritious and sufficient food throughout the year for everyone, children included, especially those in poor and in vulnerable situations.

Another important target of this Goal is to double, by 2030, the agricultural productivity and income of small-scale food producers, in particular women, indigenous peoples, families of farmers, shepherds and fishermen. This can be achieved also through the safe and fair access to land, resources, knowledge, financial services, markets and opportunities that create added value and non-agricultural employment.

The ASviS 2019 Report highlights a significant improvement regarding this Goal in Italy. In particular, in the period ranging from 2010 to 2016, in which agricultural production and the extension of the areas intended for organic farming have increased, while the use of pesticides and herbicides in agriculture has decreased.
