The project: Pensilina Solidale
Marcello Fenoaltea
Marcello Fenoaltea, 54 years old, is an example of how solidarity can be reborn even in the darkest moments. During the lockdown, he created the “Fermata Solidale” project in Palermo, starting from an abandoned bench in response to the need for many to access food and support. A children’s animator by profession, Marcello transformed this bench into a symbol of help and sharing, building a deep connection with the community.
The neighbourhood’s reaction was surprising: strangers came together to raise funds and donate food. Today, a year later, requests for help continue, and the bench has become a place of gathering and solidarity. Marcello emphasizes the importance of mutual trust, stating that their time is precious and should also be devoted to others.
The “Fermata Solidale” is not just a project but a model of an active community, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda. It is an invitation for all of us to reflect on what we can do for those around us, transforming our gesture of help into a collective action for good.
